The board is rich. 38 overstates a clean break of round-number resistance on this timeline.
Resolves Oct 1
Key drivers
- Required move
- +28%
- Spot-fund net flow, 2w
- Flat
- Perp funding
- Normalized
- OI skew
- YES-heavy
The thesis
The distance and the clock are working against YES. Spot needs roughly a 28% advance in under nine weeks through a level that has rejected price twice this cycle. Moves of that magnitude over that window have occurred in only a small minority of comparable nine-week samples, and almost always required a fresh structural inflow rather than a continuation.
Flows have cooled, which removes the obvious fuel. Spot-fund net creations have flattened and perpetual funding has normalized off its highs, meaning the marginal forced buyer of the last leg is no longer present. Without that bid, round-number supply tends to absorb rallies rather than concede.
Positioning is the tell. Open interest on this contract is heavily YES-weighted while the realized path has gone sideways, the classic setup where late longs underwrite an eventual fade. Our fair value of 28 prices a real but minority path to a breakout, and treats the current 38 as crowded optimism rather than information.
What breaks the call
- A surprise macro easing or a large allocator headline could reignite inflows and break resistance quickly.
- Thin late-summer liquidity cuts both ways and can amplify an upside squeeze.
